Jumuisha Initiative is a grassroot youth organization working in rural Makueni, Kenya. Our core goal is to promote the inclusion of all in socio-economic development. Since 2016, we have worked within Makueni to promote social change and social responsibility among youth and women. Our beneficiaries are able to represent their communities in socio economic development as they learn and earnest opportunities with courage and skill.
We believe that building capacities of community brings impact and can be achieved through addressing relevant local community issues using local resources and strategic partnerships.
Our work started as a result of reports by local community and school administration on indiscipline in secondary schools. There were student strikes across the country, Kenya, and irresponsible behaviour among school going learners. Our initial programs aimed at solving school indiscipline, as most believed that peer-to-peer mentorship would work well.
Since then, our volunteers have promoted social change in the community while educating community members on skills for a better future. Jumuisha Initiative brings together youth and women to educate, support and impact on social change in Makueni.
Jumuisha Initiative has reached out to over 21,000 youth and students in schools within Makueni county. Such include Makueni Girls- Wote, Kisau Girls -Mbooni, Ukia Girls- Okia, Good Shepherd Girls- Emali, Kitondo boy’s School – Mbooni, Kikumini Boys – Emali, AIC Malivani secondary school – Wote among others.
Other programs that Jumuisha has conducted have been to resolve emerging socio economic issues within Makueni with the aim of promoting the growth and inclusion of all in development. Programs conducted include Menstrual health and management campaigns done in 2020, Drug and substance abuse campaigns done in 2020, gender inclusion programs in 2021, and governance trainings done in 2022. Jumuisha is currently conducting youth resilience and belonging project since 2022, restoration of Kwa Kamba Community forest since 2022, and the green steps restoration project since 2024 in efforts to combat climate change.
To inspire and empower youthful population and communities through capacity building and equipping them with skills, knowledge and attitude in order to promote sustainable positive youth development in the communities.
Raising responsible, innovative and active citizens through interactive and participatory value-based training and mentorship.
As global development institutions make huge strides in achieving UN Sustainable development Goals, Jumuisha Initiative is also on the trail to ensure these are attained at the grassroots

Our Volunteers
The core reason we started the organization was to provide support to youth and students in academic and social change. Each of us had people we looked up to while growing up. We believe that, no matter the dimension of growth, everyone needs a mentor.
Over time, there was need to extend help in more thematic areas around education, decent livelihood and climate action and we stepped up to provide support to the communities. As we count our blessings, we count the 21,000 beneficiaries of our programs and initiatives.
Our team is consistent and adheres to moral and ethical values and principles in truth and honesty
Our teams' capability to communicate truthfully about processes and procedures has helped us grow together
Our team's communication allows for free flow of information at all levels in the organization
We are intentional about the work we do and it is exciting to work together towards reaching our goals
Jumuisha Initiative recognizes partnerships and involves all key stakeholders within the area of operations to realize its objectives.
